What is behind WEEE and ElektroG?

The European WEEE Directive (Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment) was implemented by the law on the placing on the market, taking back and environmentally friendly disposal of electrical and electronic equipment (Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act - ElektroG).

Which devices are covered by the Electrical Act and which are not?

§ 3 defines electrical and electronic equipment as “devices that are designed for operation with an alternating voltage of not more than 1000 volts or a direct voltage of not more than 1500 volts and

Dependent on electrical currents or electromagnetic fields for their proper operation or
“Serve the generation, transmission and measurement of electrical currents and electromagnetic fields”.

Due to the fact that the production and use of electrical and electronic equipment has been increasing rapidly for years and, of course, the waste problem is also growing to the same extent, proposals for solving the problem were developed at the European level in 2000 and were incorporated into the EU Directive on electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE Directive) at the end of 2002.

The WEEE Directive and the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG) therefore serve the following goals:

To protect health and the environment from harmful substances from electrical and electronic devices
To reduce the amount of waste through reuse or recovery (recycling).

In addition, the responsibilities for manufacturers, retailers and consumers are clearly regulated

What does Carrera Toys GmbH (hereinafter referred to as Carrera) do to achieve the goals of the WEEE Directive and the ElektroG?

The Carrera is registered with the “Stiftung Elektro-Altgeräte Register” (EAR) with the registration number. 25078058 (Germany) or 50725 (Austria) registered. The EAR Foundation is the joint body of the manufacturers within the meaning of the ElektroG and was entrusted with the performance of sovereign tasks by the Federal Environment Agency. In this context, it registers the manufacturers of electrical and electronic devices and coordinates the provision of collection containers and the collection of old devices from the public waste disposal authorities (örE).

How do you know that a device falls under the ElektroG?

Devices with this marking may not be disposed of as residual waste, but must be recycled by returning them to the responsible manufacturer or importer via the ÖE collection points.

Consumers and ElektroG

As a consumer, you have the following options for disposing of an electrical or electronic device safely and responsibly:

As in the past, they use the collection and recycling points of public waste disposal providers (e.g. municipal recycling centers).

Your old device is still in good condition or can be repaired. Maybe a donation to a charity is still a good option for further use?

You have purchased an electrical or electronic device from Carrera that falls under the regulations of the ElektroG; In this case, you can return your old device of the same type and which essentially fulfills the same functions as the new device to Carrera.

You can (regardless of purchasing a new device from Carrera) return old devices that are not longer than 25 cm in any dimension.

For the last two options mentioned, Carrera has the following option available to you:

Old devices weighing up to 31 kg and the maximum package dimensions of 120 x 60 x 60 cm can be returned freight collect (postage paid by the recipient) with DHL (Germany) or GLS (Austria).

Please note the following important information:

Data protection: In any case, you are responsible for ensuring that there is no personal data on the old devices you return. Therefore, make sure that you have deleted your personal data from your old device before returning it.

Lamps and lighting fixtures: Lamps and lighting fixtures should be packaged particularly carefully before being returned, as they can easily break during transport and release harmful substances. They should be packed well padded on all sides. Use a sufficiently large and sturdy box.

Batteries/accumulators in devices: Remove (if possible) all batteries and accumulators from the devices and dispose of them for battery disposal.
