2.4 GHz radio technology: Drive as a team without interference

The days of long telescopic antennas and plug-in crystals are a thing of the past. Today, virtually all of our models operate in the modern 2.4 GHz frequency band. This digital transmission technology offers decisive advantages:

  • Automatic frequency hopping: The transmitter and receiver are clearly linked to each other every time they are switched on. The control switches to free channels at lightning speed if sources of interference occur.
  • Riding in a group: You can race with dozens of friends on the same track at the same time, without frequencies overlapping or vehicles swerving out of control.
  • Compact antennas: Since 2.4 GHz waves are very short, tiny antenna wires integrated into the housing are sufficient. This eliminates the risk of broken transmitting antennas.

Proportional vs. non-proportional steering

When buying an RC vehicle, you should pay attention to the type of control:

  • Non-proportional (switching level): A steering command turns the wheels fully to the left or fully to the right; Gas means full throttle or standstill. This controller is very cost-effective and robust, ideal for toy stunt cars or toddler models.
  • Fully proportional: The further you pull the throttle, the faster the car goes; The finer you turn the steering wheel, the more gently the wheels turn. Proportional control is essential for precise lap times, controlled drifts or demanding off-road climbing passages.

Battery technologies in comparison: LiPo, Li-Ion and NiMH

The energy source determines travel time, acceleration and charging cycles. Three battery types dominate model making:

  • NiMH (nickel metal hydride): Robust, extremely fault-tolerant in the event of over- or deep-discharge and thermally insensitive. Perfect for entry-level models and uncomplicated toy uses.
  • Li-ion (lithium ions): Good energy density, stable and without memory effect. These batteries offer an excellent ratio of weight, performance and easy handling via USB charging cable.
  • LiPo (lithium polymer): The favorite for maximum performance. LiPo cells can deliver extremely high currents in a very short time, which ensures explosive acceleration in cars and brutal climbing performance in drones. What does the abbreviation RTR mean for Revell Control models?

RTR stands for “Ready-to-Run” (RTF for “Ready-to-Fly” in model aircraft). This means that the model is delivered completely pre-assembled. The chassis, motor, receiver and steering servo are already installed in the chassis. In addition to the model, the scope of delivery includes the appropriate remote control, a driving battery and a charging cable. All you have to do is charge the battery and possibly insert transmitter batteries to get started straight away.

Why do modern RC models use a 2.4 GHz remote control?

Modern 2.4 GHz radio technology offers immense advantages over older megahertz systems. It automatically scans for free frequency bands and digitally couples the transmitter and receiver. This means that signal interference from radio masts or other electronic devices is a thing of the past. You can also drive or fly with as many friends as you want at the same time without having to agree on channels or frequency crystals beforehand.

At what age are Revell Control vehicles suitable for children?

Our range covers practically all stages of development. For small children aged around two and over, we offer the perfect introduction with plush bodies and extremely simple two-button operation. From around the age of six, entry-level BugCurrents and coaxial helicopters are ideal. We recommend more sophisticated models with fully proportional controls and high speeds beyond 25 km/h for children aged around eight to ten.

What do I do if my RC boat capsizes on the water?

Many of our modern racing boats have an integrated capsizing function (self-righting). If the boat overturns during a tight turn, you can independently turn it back onto its hull using rhythmic throttle and reverse thrusts on the remote control using the counter torque of the engine in the water. This is how you maneuver it back to shore safely and without outside help.

Are Revell Control models waterproof?

A distinction must be made between splash-proof and completely waterproof. Many of our off-road cars have encapsulated receiver boxes and protected servos, so wet meadows, damp forest floors or small puddles are no problem. However, vehicles should never be completely submerged. Boats can of course float and have sealed hatches, but they still need to be dried and well ventilated after the trip.

Are there suitable spare parts for Revell Control models in the event of defects?
