Why Revell space models are the right choice
Why space and space travel models from Revell will inspire you
The fascination with the universe is as old as humanity itself. When you look at the starry sky at night, you feel this irrepressible urge to explore the unknown. We capture exactly this feeling with our space and astronautics models. As a model maker, you are not just a mere observer; you recreate with your own hands the engineering masterpieces that paved our way to the stars. Revell has stood for the highest quality for decades, and our space category is no exception.
Each kit is the result of meticulous research and close collaboration with experts. When you build a Revell model, you hold a piece of engineering in your hands. The precise fit of the parts, the fine engravings on the surfaces of the rocket stages and the authentic decals ensure that your finished model looks like it was teleported directly from NASA's launch pad to your desk. It is this attention to detail that makes the building process a meditative, deeply satisfying experience.
Highest attention to detail for real space fans
For you as a real enthusiast, it's not enough if a model just roughly looks like a rocket. You want to see the tiny control jets, feel the heat protection tiles of a space shuttle and understand the complex structure of the solar panels on the ISS. Our space and space travel models offer you exactly this depth. Modern injection molding techniques in 2026 will allow us to create textures and structures that were unthinkable just a few years ago. For you, this means: More realism, more building fun and an end result that is an absolute eye-catcher in every showcase.
The learning effect: understanding space history
Model building is much more than just putting plastic parts together. It is applied history and technology you can touch. As you put together the different stages of a moon rocket, you suddenly understand how the principle of stage drop works. You will learn the names of the modules, understand the challenges of the heat shield and understand the sheer scale of these machines. Especially if you build with your children or grandchildren, our space & astronautics models provide a fantastic basis for talking about physics, astronomy and humanity's great visions.
Discover the variety of our space travel kits
Our range is as diverse as the history of space travel itself. We know that every model maker has their own preferences. Maybe your heart beats for the pioneering times of the 1960s, or you are fascinated by modern orbital outposts. At Revell, we've reduced the key milestones of human exploration to scale so you can recreate them in all their glory.
Legendary NASA missions: Apollo and the gigantic Saturn V
There is hardly a more impressive technical construct than the Saturn V rocket that took humanity to the moon. Our models from the Apollo missions are among the absolute highlights in the range. When you build the three-foot-tall Saturn V on a large scale, you feel the awe of the engineers of the 1960s. You build the massive F-1 first stage engines, the Apollo spacecraft and the tiny lunar module. These space & astronautics models are sophisticated, but reward you with a breathtaking display piece that will amaze every visitor to your home.
The Space Shuttle Era
The Space Shuttle was the first reusable space transporter and shaped the image of space travel for decades. Our kits of shuttles like Discovery or Atlantis give you the opportunity to recreate this iconic design. You can decide whether to build the shuttle in the launch setup with the huge external tank and solid boosters, or whether to display it in orbit with the loading doors open, perhaps even with the robotic arm in action. The detailed cockpits and precisely recreated cargo compartments make these models a must for every fan.
The International Space Station (ISS) – An outpost in space
The ISS is the largest artificial object in Earth orbit and a symbol of international cooperation. Building a model of the ISS is a very special challenge. The delicate grid structures, the countless solar panels and the various modules require patience and sensitivity. But that's exactly what makes it so attractive. When you have completed this space & astronautics model, you will own a fascinating replica of humanity's most modern laboratory. It's a project you can invest many hours into and will give you deep insights into space station architecture.
Which model building system is right for you?
Whether you're a complete newbie who's never held a brush before or a seasoned veteran with an airbrush system, we have the right system for you. At Revell, we have divided our space and astronautics models into different levels of difficulty so that you can find exactly the challenge that you enjoy and doesn't frustrate you.
Revell Build & Play and the Click System: The perfect introduction
If you or your children want to get started straight away without having to wait for glue or paint to dry, our Build & Play and Click System kits are ideal. Here the precisely manufactured parts are simply inserted into one another. They are extremely stable and are often pre-colored in the appropriate basic colors. This is the perfect way to train your motor skills and gain your first taste of success in model building. Within a very short time, an impressive rocket is created that is even robust enough to be used for the first space adventures in the children's room.
Classic model building for advanced users and professionals (levels 3 to 5)
For you as a passionate crafter, the real fun only begins when glue, putty and paint come into play. Our level 3 to 5 kits demand all of your skills. Here the space and astronautics models consist of hundreds of individual parts. You have full control over the finish. You can use techniques like "washing" or "drybrushing" to add realistic soot marks to rocket engines, or add subtle shading to a shuttle's heat shield tiles. These models require time, but reward you with absolute perfection and exhibition quality.
Tips for building your first space model
To ensure that your project is a success right from the start, we as experts would like to give you some valuable advice. The construction of space & astronautics models differs in some details from cars or airplanes, as the color scheme is often very specific and large, smooth surfaces dominate.
Proper preparation is everything
Before you separate the first part from the casting branch, take the time to carefully leaf through the construction instructions. Familiarize yourself with the individual construction steps. Never separate the parts with force, but use sharp side cutters for model making. Clean the edges carefully with a fine file or some sandpaper. Especially in rocket models where cylinder halves are joined together, a clean seam is crucial for a realistic end result. If necessary, use some modeling putty to make transitions invisible.
Painting: The secret to the perfect finish
Many space and astronautics models, especially rockets like the Saturn V or modern launch systems, are dominated by large white areas. White is often a challenge when brushing because it doesn't always cover immediately. Our tip: Prime the model beforehand with a light-colored primer from a spray can. If you have the opportunity, use spray paint or an airbrush gun for large areas. This ensures a flawless, even surface. You can then work out the fine details and black markings at your leisure with a fine brush.
Apply decals correctly
The decals give your model its face. The distinctive NASA logos, flags and tiny warning signs ("Rescue", "No Step") make the difference between a plastic toy and a real model. Cut out the decals cleanly, soak them briefly in lukewarm water and carefully push them onto the model with a brush. To avoid the dreaded “silvering” effect (silver shimmer on the carrier film), you should first coat the area with a little shiny clear varnish. After drying, seal the entire model with matt or semi-matt clear varnish.
Space model building as a cross-generational hobby
In a world that is becoming increasingly digital, classic model making offers a wonderful analog balance. It's a hobby that grounds you, increases your concentration and rewards you with something tangible at the end. Our space & astronautics models in particular have the unique ability to connect generations. Grandparents who watched the moon landing live on television in 1969 can share their memories as they build the Apollo capsule with their grandchildren, who today may dream of a manned mission to Mars.
Take advantage of this opportunity to spend valuable time together. A joint construction project over several weekends brings people together. You learn to be patient, to solve problems together and to be happy about achieving intermediate goals. The eyes that light up when the finished rocket stands upright on the table for the first time are priceless.
